Each participating group recruits volunteer judges who see all eligible shows in an award season (September – August), usually 25-30 productions. The judges complete an electronic ballot for each show that addresses all director-nominated actors and technical aspects, as well as overall artistic direction and the show as a whole. The scores from each judge are tabulated electronically and finalists are the Top 5 scorers in each category, with the top scorer (or scorers, as ties are allowed) winning the trophy. Judge’s Choice awards are different; on each ballot, the judge has the option to designate an actor, technical aspect or ensemble as outstanding. Once two judges have nominated that performer, ensemble, or effect the nominee is entered into an overall list of judge choice mentions. At the end of the season, all judges vote on the list, ranking their top five performers or technical effect. The nominee with the most votes wins, and the other top four are listed as finalists. The list above has been compiled using this process, and meets the approval of the Wings Awards Association Board of Directors, representing all 8 participating groups. An awards banquet will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in the Von Braun Center North Hall to celebrate the excellent theatre and dance that Huntsville has to offer; for your ticket, call 256-665-6418 or email wingsawards@gmail.com!
